California-based Haas Automation reports that 2007 was the most productive year in the company’s history. cnc machine tool production exceeded 13,755 units—up 10% over 2006—and revenues increased 19% to more than $880 million. Sales of Haas CNC machine tools hit an all-time high of 13,663 units, nearly 20% more than in 2006, and the company shipped a record 13,751 units worldwide.

For the first time, more than half of all Haas CNC machines sold during the year went to overseas markets. In Europe, the company’s machine tool sales increased by 58% over 2006, and sales in China grew by a remarkable 65%. In Asia excluding China, Haas sales expanded by 20%, and sales in Latin America increased by 17.5%.

“It was an incredible year,” says Haas general manager Bob Murray, “and we owe a lot to our international customers. We will continue investing in our growing international markets to ensure that all Haas customers receive the high-quality products and world-class service they deserve.”

All Haas products are built in the company’s million-square-foot (93,000-m²) manufacturing facility in Southern California and distributed worldwide through a global network of Haas Factory Outlets (HFOs). Haas opened more than 30 new HFOs in 2007, primarily in international markets, and plans to open as many as 40 more worldwide this year.

“Our growing HFO network allows us to provide Haas customers around the world with local access to Haas products, sales assistance, replacement parts, and factory-trained service personnel,” notes Murray, who credits a commitment to customer service for driving Haas’s global success.

This year should be another busy one for the company’s European operations.

“On May 31, 2007, we installed our 75,000th CNC machine tool,” says Haas Europe managing director Peter Hall. “By the end of the year, we’d passed the 85,000 mark.” Hall says that the company expects continued and strong growth in Europe in 2008.

Also, the Haas Technical Education Centre (HTEC) programme was launched in 2007, at the EMO Hannover trade fair. Since then, the HTEC concept has been welcomed in Austria, Germany, Belarus, Russia, Poland, Italy, Greece, Belgium, Scandinavia, Portugal, and Estonia.

“Our initial goal was to have 100 fully Haas-certified HTECs in Europe within 5 years,” Hall explains. “However, judging by the response we are already experiencing, this is probably a very conservative number, and I anticipate at least 200 to be achievable.”
