“We know that German companies make the best tools, but we have to convince our customers of the fact!” This recent statement by an eminent supporter of the German toolmaking industry gives impetus to the 7th International Colloquium “Tool and Die Making for the Future,” being held in Wiesbaden, Germany, on December 4, 2007. The event organizer is the Aachener Werkzeug- und Formenbau, a joint business unit of the Laboratory for Machine Tools and Production Engineering (WZL) of the RWTH Aachen and the Fraunhofer Institute for Production Technology (IPT).
Industry experts and finalists in this year’s Excellence in Production competition will speak to colloquium attendees in the afternoon about trends having relevance for businesses in the tool and die making industry, their suppliers, and their customers. They will use practical examples to support their insightful and detailed strategies for successful toolmaking, and will explain how these strategies can be implemented in everyday business.
A highlight of the conference should be the lecture by Hubert Waltl, head of the toolmaking division of the VW Corporation and chairman of the VDMA Die and mold trade association. In “Trends in the Automotive Industry: Challenges for the Toolmaking Industry,” he will talk about potential developments coming from one of Europe’s largest automotive companies.
As in previous years, the event organizers will be presenting the award for Toolmaker of the Year 2007 to the winner of the Excellence in Production competition during an evening ceremony. The prize recognizes the year’s best toolmaking company in the German-speaking region, the honoree being that firm among the 300 under consideration that prevails following a rigorous selection procedure.
The Excellence in Production competition is supported by the German engineering federation VDMA, the business publication VDI Nachrichten, and the Werkzeug- und Formenbau trade journal, as well as by Böhler-Uddeholm Deutschland and Uddeholm Tooling AB, and also by DEMAT GmbH, the exhibition company that organizes the EuroMold mould making and tooling trade fair.
