Visitors to this year’s Plastics Design and Moulding Exhibition & Conference, PDM 08, will be able to get quick, no-obligation advice on designing or manufacturing a product in plastic at “Plastics Surgery—Ask the Consultant,” a special service provided by the Plastics Consultancy Network (PCN). PDM 08, organized by publisher Crain Communications, takes place at the Telford International Centre in Telford, UK, April 15–17.
The informative “Plastics Surgery” service will be run out of a distinctive inflatable plastic “igloo.” There, experts from the PCN will help fairgoers by answering their technical and materials questions and suggesting how to best exploit their time at PDM 08.
“Plastics Surgery provides all visitors to PDM with free access to the knowledge of PCN experts,” explains Robin Kent of the PCN. “The industry often forgets that many designers and users know that they want to use plastics but really don’t know where to start, and that’s where we come in.”
PCN members staffing the igloo will be available throughout PDM to help visitors with all aspects of plastics technology, including identifying materials, matching them, and selecting the right material for an application; optimizing design for cost reduction and performance; choosing the best, most-energy-efficient production process; locating suppliers and identifying profitable markets; and controlling processing costs.
The PCN marks its 21st anniversary at PDM 08. The group will be distributing to all PDM visitors a special edition of the “Periodic Table of Thermoplastics,” a free guide to the complete range of thermoplastics.
