The next METAV trade fair will be held in Düsseldorf from March 31 through April 4, 2008. This international fair for manufacturing technology and automation has established itself as the biggest technology showcase for Germany’s entire production technology and automation sector that appears in even years. METAV 2008 will be co-located with the contemporaneous exhibitions wire—the international trade fair for wires and cables—and Tube—the international trade fair for pipes and tubing.

The combination of METAV with wire and Tube 2008 in Düsseldorf constitutes an ideal source of information for companies like Heinz Kettler GmbH & Co. KG, a manufacturer of sports equipment. Kettler is cited by VDW, the German Machine Tool Builders’ Association, which is the organizer of METAV, as an example of the sort of enterprise for which seeing the full spectrum of production technology on exhibit at the fair, particularly when augmented by the related specialty shows, is essential.

Kettler and companies like it in the sports equipment manufacturing industry must continually redesign and update their products. Therefore, they need production technology that is flexible and at the same time cost-efficient. Firms from the sports equipment sector, the VDW points out, can acquire the expertise required for sophisticated manufacturing operations at production trade fairs like METAV in Düsseldorf. Representatives of Kettler are accordingly regular customers at these fairs.

METAV principally focuses on machine tools, manufacturing systems, high-precision tools, automated material flow, computer technology, industrial electronics, and accessories. It targets visitors from all major branches of industry. At the last METAV in Düsseldorf, in 2006, 926 exhibitors from 21 countries attracted 47,500 trade visitors from 39 nations to the 56,065 m² of net exhibition space.Heinz Kettler GmbH says that it has found the right machine tool technology for its present needs in laser tube-cutting. Laser tube machining has become a fixed constituent of design work at the company, with laser-cut tubes being incorporated into almost all the leisure equipment it makes. Its supplier is Trumpf Werkzeugmaschinen GmbH + Co. KG, which will be exhibiting at METAV 2008 and the concurrent Tube.

Norbert Beier, sales manager for laser tube-cutting at Trumpf, promises that his company will be exhibiting a variety of innovations for laser inscriptions and laser tube machining in Düsseldorf at the turn of next April.
