The Italian-headquartered Marposs S.p.A., which has a US operation in Auburn Hills, Michigan, has acquired Control Gaging Inc. (CGI), a company located in nearby Ann Arbor, Michigan. Existing CGI management and personnel will be retained, and the company will be operated as a separate Marposs subsidiary in its present location. The corporate structure of both companies is unchanged by the acquisition.
Announcing the acquisition, Marposs president Stefano Possati noted that Marposs and CGI were industry leaders in gauging and process control systems for manufacturers worldwide. “Each company has unique products and business systems that help their customers remain globally competitive,” he said.
“Customers will continue to receive the outstanding service and support they have come to expect from Marposs and CGI,” Possati added.
CGI, founded in 1972, offers quick-setup gauges and process control systems for grinding machines and other machine tools, while Marposs provides inspection and process control technologies for a broad range of manufacturing industries, including metalworking.
President Edward Vella of Marposs Corp. in the USA noted that both companies were excited about the opportunities the acquisition creates. “It will help us add even more value for our customers as we continue to support their machining process control needs,” he commented.
Added CGI sales and marketing manager David Hayes, “We remain committed to satisfying our customers’ current and future needs, and we believe that commitment will be greatly enhanced by the new ownership of CGI.”
Marposs was established by Mario Possati in 1952. Since then, the company has supplied shop-floor solutions for the measurement and process control of manufactured components. The systems incorporate electronic, nondestructive, optical, and pneumatic technologies.
