Equipolymers, the joint venture in PTA/PET between Kuwait’s Petrochemical Industries Company (PIC) and Dow Chemical, has completed construction of a state-of-the-art PET line at its Ottana facility, in Italy.

The new facility, which started up at the beginning of this month, raises the capacity at the site to 150,000tpa, contributing to the company’s total capacity of 485,000tpa, making the venture one of the leading European suppliers.

It employs the most up-to-date Zimmer technology in the melt phase polycondensation and operates in synergy with the existing Buehler solid state polycondensation plant, the company says.

“This expansion is part of the Equipolymers growth strategy and commitment to meet the continually rising demand of our European customers,” said Graham Fox, the former Dow executive who is CEO and president of Equipolymers. “Completion of this investment means that we now have three highly competitive manufacturing plants in Europe with the Ottana facility having integrated on-site PTA.”

Equipolymers, set up in 2004, also makes PET at two lines in Schkopau, in eastern Germany.
