Gibbs and Associates, the developer of GibbsCAM® software for programming cnc machine tools, and Infimatic, a MAG Industrial Automation Systems company, have announced a new worldwide strategic partnership. A key component of the relationship involves Infimatic offering Gibbs’ SFP (for shop-floor programming) software with its new line of open-architecture machine controls.
The Infimatic Freedom NC200™ CNC with Gibbs SFP was introduced to Europe at the EMO tradeshow held in Hannover, Germany, this fall.
“We are extremely pleased to have been specified by Infimatic as their control-resident programming solution,” says Robb Weinstein, Gibbs’ senior vice president of sales and strategic planning. “Though Gibbs has worked closely with MAG Fadal and MAG Cincinnati for many years, we did not take Infimatic’s selection for granted. Infimatic has worked diligently to develop a unique control, and it was only after an extensive evaluation that Gibbs SFP was selected.”
Able to support programming wire-frame geometry, the version of Gibbs SFP bundled with the Infimatic Freedom NC200 can be upgraded to support programming more-complex parts, including surface and solid models. Because Gibbs SFP is completely compatible with the GibbsCAM product line, programmes developed off-line using GibbsCAM can be directly transferred to Gibbs SFP on the controller for review and easy modification. Changes made to the part programme on the Freedom NC200 using Gibbs SFP can then be transferred back to GibbsCAM and referenced as shop-proven processes.
During the EMO show, Gibbs SFP was demonstrated on freestanding Infimatic control units and in installations on MAG Fadal VMC 4020 FX and MAG Fadal VMC 2216 FX vertical machining centres.
MAG Fadal is the first machine builder to adopt the new Infimatic CNC. Infimatic plans to grow its business by offering controls to all MAG business units and also to other independent machine builders.
