Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has announced a new sales record of 356,000 vehicles in the first nine months of calendar 2007, an 11.4% rise compared to the 319,650 vehicles sold in the same period of 2006.
The division has also announced a 12.1% rise in turnover to €6.6bn (US$9.7bn) for the nine-month period. In October, Volkswagen said operating profit for its vans and trucks unit had risen to €148m in the 1 January-30 September period from €88m a year earlier.
Stephan Schaller, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles’ chief executive said: "Strong demand in the summer months delivered additional volume rather than purchases that have been brought forward. We stay optimistic for the rest of the year".
