Delcam plc continues to rank as the world’s leading specialist supplier of manufacturing software and services, according to the latest NC Software and Related Services Market Assessment from the US-based consulting and market research firm CIMdata Inc. The software company increased its market share by achieving sales growth of 15% between 2006 and 2007, which compares favourably with overall growth in revenues for vendors in the scetor of less than 8%.
The CIMdata report additionally confirmed that Delcam has the largest overall staff devoted to CAM in the industry, including the largest CAM development team.
Delcam’s managing director, Hugh Humphreys, delighted with the results, claims that they clearly validate the company’s aggressive growth strategy. “For several years,” he notes, “we have aimed to build our company’s sales by diversifying outside our traditional market in the mould, tool, and die sector, and increasing our business in other areas—in particular, in the automotive and aerospace sectors.”
Continues Humphreys, “We have achieved consistently above-average increases in sales through significant acquisitions, specifically the FeatureCAM and PartMaker ranges of software, and through organic growth.”
The MD also emphasizes Delcam’s commitment to high levels of R&D investment as a key part of the company’s success. The CIMdata report states that “over time, one would expect the organization with the most resources to provide a greater breadth and depth of internally developed product,” a view that Humphreys certainly supports.
“Together, our complete set of CAM programmes—PowerMill, FeatureCAM, PartMaker, and ArtCAM—comprises the world’s most comprehensive collection of machining software, giving us an unrivalled ability to provide solutions to all of a company’s programming needs,” he explains. Larger companies can use a single supplier to satisfy all of their CAM needs, Humphreys points out, while smaller companies can choose exactly the system they need rather than settle for a compromise solution from a supplier with a more limited product range.
“We had our best quarter ever in the first three months of 2008,” reports the MD, who is confident of an even better showing in next year’s CIMdata report.
