Seven machine package includes 1500 tonne giant.

Rosti Technical Plastics (UK) has completed a significant investment programme in new injection moulding machines at its Larkhall site, near Glasgow, in a major vote of confidence in UK plastics processing.

The seven machine package of Engels includes a 1500 tonner, which is thought to be Scotland’s largest machine at present. The other six machines are tiebarless units in the 200-400 tonne range which are now on station at the site in one discrete batch, and take the total machine complement to 48.

Managing director Barry Coughlan would not reveal how much had been invested but said it was a significant amount in the region of seven figures. The investment reflects the plant’s successful diversification away from the mobile phone business and its growing emphasis on automotive moulding, decoration and assembly.

Coughlan told PRWmold.wiki that Larkhall is generating 50% of its turnover from this industry which supplied only 3-4% of its sales two or three years ago. The operation, part of the worldwide Danish owned Rosti group, has secured a number of significant orders for interior components across a range of OEM customers.

Coughlan said the tiebarless units were chosen for their ability to optimise efficient use of the company’s mould tool base, notably the ability to handle larger tools. The units are also being used on non automotive work at the plant.

Larkhall’s success is also reflected in employee numbers, which have risen from 150 two years ago to a current figure of 260 as well as ongoing expansion at the site with added logistics and manufacturing space.
