Lord Digby Jones of Birmingham will officially open both the PPMA Show and Interplas 2008 on September 30. The dignitary serves the United Kingdom as minister of state for trade and investment. Interplas takes place September 30 through October 2 at the NEC in Birmingham.
Lord Digby Jones was made trade and investment minister in 2007. For six and a half years prior to that, concluding in June 2006, he served as director-general of the CBI (Confederation of British Industry). In that capacity he regularly visited businesses in the UK and abroad. Lord Digby Jones took the British business message to 70 countries, frequently meeting with political, business, and media figures.
Interplas is the UK’s leading plastics exhibition, offering plastics industry professionals the opportunity to view, evaluate, and source machinery and products from all sectors of plastics manufacturing. This year, for the first time, the event is co-located with the processing and packaging machinery exhibition, the PPMA Show.
“It is a great honour to have Lord Digby Jones open both these shows,” comments Exhibition Director Liz Finlay. “Interplas and the PPMA Show represent an excellent showcase of the very best of British manufacturing and engineering, and demonstrate the skills and expertise that we need to embrace in order to compete effectively in today’s very competitive markets.”
Details of Lord Digby Jones’s schedule are being finalized, but it will include an opportunity for him to engage directly with some of the machinery suppliers, enabling him to view some of the latest developments and innovations and witness the high levels of expertise within these important industry sectors.
“Lord Digby Jones’ participation will provide a huge boost to the profile of this event,” says PPMA chief executive Chris Buxton, “as well as giving a well-regarded senior government minister an opportunity to engage directly with British manufacturers.”
