An agreement reached between the Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE) and the Society of the Plastics Industry Inc. (SPI) will lead to SPE presenting a technical conference at SPI’s NPE 2009 international plastics exposition in Chicago. The conference will feature numerous never-before-published papers. The agreement enables SPI to provide NPE visitors with the largest technical educational programme ever offered as an integral part of an international plastics trade show.
NPE 2009 show and the SPE conference will take place June 22–26, 2009, at Chicago’s McCormick Place. The SPE technical conference will be held in the new McCormick West building, which includes extensive state-of-the-art meeting facilities. It will be of a size “commensurate with NPE 2009,” according to SPI president and CEO William R. Carteaux. He notes that NPE will be the world’s largest plastics show in 2009, and that it is expected to attract even more international exhibitors and visitors than it did in 2006.
SPE organizes the annual ANTEC conference, the world’s largest plastics technical conference, and is a premiere source of plastics education, notes Susan Oderwald, SPE executive director.
“SPE’s conference at NPE 2009 will incorporate all of the values of our other technical conferences, creating an unprecedented opportunity for intercommunication between the scientific and technical community and the marketing and sales professionals on the exhibit floor,” she says. “We will develop a programme consisting solely of original, peer-reviewed presentations and ranging over a broad spectrum of technical interests. There will be hundreds of papers, reflecting the diversity of SPE membership and the tens of thousands of visitors at NPE2009.”
The newly completed McCormick West facility has one of the highest ratios of meeting to exhibit space in the United States. In addition to the SPE conference, it will accommodate many NPE 2009 exhibitors and serve as a new-technology showcase for industry suppliers, processors, and designers, according to Carteaux. “While the SPE technical conference will present the results of recent research in many industry sectors and introduce a wealth of innovations, the exhibit floor will feature special pavilions and displays sponsored by SPI to highlight the latest developments in materials, processing, and design.”
