The European Powder Metallurgy Association (EPMA) has announced the launch of the next installment in its series of annual competitions for the prestigious Awards for Excellence in Powder Metallurgy. Prizewinners will be recognized on September 30, 2008, at the Euro PM2008 Congress and Exhibition in Mannheim, Germany, which takes place September 29 through October 1. The deadline for submitting entries is April 30.
Over the years, the EPMA awards have promoted and stimulated interest in powder metallurgy (PM) technology. They honour significant achievements in successful commercialization of a product, material, equipment, or process and in technological innovation in the PM field.
Three European awards are issued, in the following categories: Components, covering all types of PM products (structural parts, bearings, hard metals, wear- and corrosion-resistant parts, PM semifinished products, metal-injection-moulded parts, etc.); Materials (powder-based materials evaluated on the basis of their properties); and Production Equipment, including presses, furnaces, tooling, and the like. In addition, the International PM Award, for which submissions from all these categories are accepted, recognizes the best achievement attained by an EPMA member company operating outside Europe.
The EPMA encourages all of its members to consider submitting an entry. Participation in the competition is free, and is exclusive to EPMA members. All entries will be displayed in the EPMA Showcase at the Euro PM2008 Exhibition and will be featured in the 2008 Awards booklet.
A framed award will be presented to each winner at a special awards luncheon on September 30. During the luncheon, a short video about each prize winner will be shown. Award winners will receive extensive press coverage in the international journal Powder Metallurgy, in the EPMA Newsletter, and in additional PM industry publications, and they will be promoted on the EPMA website.
Further information and entry forms are available from the EPMA on-line.
