Markus Grob is assuming leadership of the newly established MAG Europe business unit of the machine tool building conglomerate MAG Industrial Automation Systems. Grob, 46, replaces Dr. Robert Wassmer as president. His appointment is intended to build on the restructuring measures developed and implemented by Dr. Wassmer and to consolidate MAG’s regional capabilities.
Grob is one of three MAG presidents, each of whom has overall control of one of the global machine tool company’s regional units. These officers hold responsibility for meeting the demanding requirements of markets in America, Asia, and Europe.
The first task of the new president for Europe, who moved to MAG from the Chiron Group to take the position, will be to further strengthen MAG’s European business.
“We want to offer our customers full access to the wide-ranging expertise of our renowned brands,” says Grob. “To this end, we will optimize all our operations and utilize innovative technologies.”
Grob is assisted by a highly qualified team of managers. The new chief sales officer is Rolf Schmidt, who will drive the optimization of sales structures in new markets and harmonize distributor and sales representative networks in Europe. Günther Mayr will, as chief operating officer, intensify operational cooperation. MAG Europe’s management team will be completed when Gerhard Hagenau comes on board as chief financial officer and Dr. Bernhard Pause takes the helm as chief technical officer (CTO).
Cooperation among the three MAG regional centres will continue to be very close. Says Heinz Verfuerth, MAG vice chairman for Europe, “With this structure we will be able to better exploit existing synergies in and between divisions and regions in the future. Especially in growth markets in South America, Asia, Eastern Europe, and Russia, we want to be able to act as quickly as possible to satisfy our customers’ requirements and further expand our leadership role in machine tool building.”
