Mastercam, the world’s number one CAM software package according to CIMdata Inc., was used exclusively in the manufacturing challenges that were contested at the World Skills 2007 event in Japan last November. The software is developed by CNC Software Inc., headquartered in the United States. The Japanese company Genetec Corp. was the local Mastercam reseller supporting the World Skills competition.
The 39th World Skills International (WSI) took place in Numazu, in the prefecture of Shizuoka in central Japan. WSI is a competition among students from around the world, who contend with each other in a show of expertise in 47 various skill and technology categories. Mastercam was employed in the competition by all teams that competed in the CNC Milling, CNC Turning, and Manufacturing Team Challenge categories.
CNC Software is active also at a grassroots level, helping contestants around the world with software to prepare for the event. This assistance is offered in conjunction with local Mastercam resellers, and serves to enable those resellers to become involved with future engineers and machinists.
Calgary, Alberta, in western Canada, will be host to more than 900 competitors from 49 countries September 1–6, 2009, when the 2009 World Skills International competition is held. Information about the event is available at www.worldskills.org.
