Companies from the plastics and rubber industry arrived at the world’s top trade fair for their sector, K 2007 in Düsseldorf, with an optimistic outlook inspired by good and improving economic conditions. And, over the eight days of the fair, their high hopes for fair-related business were even exceeded, reports Messe Düsseldorf, the organizer of the giant event.
Ulrich Reifenhäuser, chairman of the K 2007 exhibitor council, put it in a nutshell: “We’re heading home in the best of moods! Already, during the fair itself, a remarkable number of deals were closed—some of them in the millions. We forged so many promising new contacts and recorded so many serious enquiries regarding new projects that we feel completely confident about the continued growth predicted for the industry.”
He went on to explain: “Our user industries are investing vigorously—money that is going into new high-performance plant and equipment—to ensure strong positions in what is a thriving global competition.”
This opinion was shared by exhibitors in all industry segments, from raw materials producers through processors to machine builders. From the day K 2007 first opened its doors, the mood among the 3,130 exhibitors was positive, and stoked by the keen interest shown by trade visitors from around the world. The technological innovations on display at the stands were received with great enthusiasm by visitors who, in some cases, spontaneously ordered what they liked.
“Intensive talks were conducted at the stands with visitors who came to Düsseldorf well prepared with specific project queries,” said Werner Matthias Dornscheidt, president and CEO of Messe Düsseldorf. “This means that, on top of the successes achieved in the halls, exhibitors can look forward to good post-fair business.”
Roughly 242,000 trade visitors attended K 2007, coming from more than 100 countries. Thus, the increase in visitor numbers over K 2004 was 11,000, while the contingent of exhibitors grew by more than 200 from the last edition to this. Of the visitors, 57% came from abroad, and the number from Asia continued to climb. Experts flew in from Latin America, North America, India, and other far-flung places of origin in larger numbers than before. A clear step-up in interest and willingness to place orders was noted among Central and Eastern Europeans.
Plant and machine building, with its almost 1,900 exhibitors, was not only the dominant exhibition category at K 2007 but also the focus of the greatest visitor interest, with two out of three professionals polled indicating that they wanted in particular to investigate the innovations in this segment.
The poll also revealed that 96% of visitors were satisfied or highly satisfied with the scope of offerings they found in the exhibition stands.
The next K in Düsseldorf is scheduled to take place October 27–November 3, 2010.
