It might have been expected that the first AMB International Exhibition for Metal Working to be held at the New Stuttgart Trade Fair Centre would be popular. But no one quite expected this: Messe Stuttgart GmbH, which organizes AMB, reported in early February that the new, much-lauded facility had created such enormous interest in AMB 2008 that 1,000 exhibitors had already registered at a point that was still eight months out from the start of the exhibition.
Exhibitors had endured the inadequacies of the cramped, inefficient old Trade Fair Centre in Killesberg for years. They could not get the stand space they requested because the total exhibition space available was too small. They had to wait at certain times during the construction and dismantling of stands because of hall accessibility problems. And some restrictions on the weight of machines that could be exhibited were forced on AMB participants whose stands happened to be above basement space.
However, the exhibition halls of the New Stuttgart Trade Fair Centre have been said to set standards for Europe and the world. Exhibitors are eagerly looking forward to inhabiting the new Stuttgart facility, situated adjacent to the Stuttgart airport, when AMB opens its doors to visitors next September 9–13.
“We naturally assumed that our new trade fair centre would go down very well with exhibitors,” says Daniela Löbbe, the AMB team leader at Messe Stuttgart. The massive early sign-up was a surprise, though—especially to reach 1,000 registrations before February. “We did not expect that so early,” Löbbe marvels.
The new Stuttgart centre’s gross exhibition area of 105,200 m² is twice what was previously available, but Löbbe says it will probably all be booked by September. This is, she says, “an impressive sign of the confidence which our exhibitors place in us, in spite of the difficult conditions in the past.”
Visitors also will have something to celebrate in the new venue. Exhibitors will be arranged in the halls thematically by product and service categories, making them easy to locate despite the fairground area being twice the size it was at the previous facility.
