The dynamic city of Toulouse, France, home of Airbus and the hub of France’s aviation industry, was the backdrop for the 16th Euro PM Congress & Exhibition, the leading annual European powder metallurgy (PM) industry event, which was organized and sponsored by the European Powder Metallurgy Association (EPMA). Taking place on October 14–17, Euro PM2007 featured a packed technical programme that attracted in excess of 200 oral and poster presentations and more than 600 participants, and its exhibition area showcased more than 60 exhibiting companies from around the world.
“This year’s exhibition has been a real success, as we have attracted all facets of the PM industry supply chain to allow for delegate and exhibitor interaction,” said Jonathan Wroe, EPMA executive director. “Toulouse has been an excellent host city for our delegates.”
During the Congress’s plenary session, the new EPMA president, Ingo Cremer, gave a presentation entitled “Review of the PM Industry from a European Perspective.” Additional plenary speakers were Dr. Rainer Rauh from Airbus Toulouse, who spoke on “New Opportunities for Advances in Aircraft Structures,” and Alrik Danielson, president and CEO of Höganäs AB, who talked about “The Challenge for the PM Industry: Create and Capture Value.”
A highlight of the event was the presentation of the EPMA Distinguished Service Awards for 2007 to Dr. Joan Antoni Bas of Ames S.A. and Dr. Gian Filippo Bocchini, a PM consultant.
The Euro PM2007 Congress Dinner was held at La Médiathèque, a setting that provided sunset views of the city. The gala dinner provided a pleasant venue for further professional discussion in a relaxed atmosphere.
Euro PM2008 is scheduled to be held in Mannheim, Germany, next September 29–October 1.
