17 December 2007 – German antitrust authorities have approved the purchase by Hanover-based Benecke-Kaliko of the automotive film business Alkor. Alkor is as subsidiary of Worms-based Renolit and antitrust authorities also stated that they have no objections to Renolit buying the furniture covering business of Benecke-Kaliko in return. Both transactions will take place at the end of this month. Benecke-Kaliko, a business unit of ContiTech, develops and manufactures technical and decorative surface materials as well as slush skins (the external covering of dashboards) made of plastic. The company’s core competencies are in automotive interior trim including instrument panels, seats, consoles, doors and sunshades. The company’s nine plants employ 1,726 and posted sales of €317.2 million in 2006. ContiTech is a division of Continental AG and had more than €25 billion sales in 2006 figures. Continental Corporation is a major global automotive supplier of brake systems as well as systems and components for the powertrain and chassis, instrumentation, infotainment solutions, vehicle electronics, tyres and technical elastomers.
