The most recent annual analysis of computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) software seats issued by CIMdata Inc. shows that Mastercam®, from CNC Software Inc., remains the world’s most widely used CAM software. This makes the 14th straight year that Mastercam has received this recognition by the market analysis firm, which is no surprise given that, with almost 136,000 installed seats worldwide, Mastercam still has more than twice the installed base of its closest competitor.
“There is a lot of competition in the CAM market today, and we are pleased to be at the top,” remarks CNC Software president Mark Summers. “We have worked hard to develop the best CAD/CAM software we possibly can by constantly updating our software to reflect our customers’ needs.”
CIMdata chairman Alan Christman notes that, “as in prior years, Mastercam has proven itself to be the most widely used CAM software in the world, based on total installed seats.” But, he adds, “when those installed seats are broken out, it also ranks number one in both the industrial and the educational markets.”
“CNC Software always strives to be the leader in the CAD/CAM industry,” Summers comments. “We’re happy that Mastercam’s popularity means more people know the software. This means shops have an easier time finding good programmers, students entering the workplace know our software, and individuals who know Mastercam have an easier time finding a good job.”
Mastercam is Windows®-based CAD/CAM software for 2- through 5-axis milling and turning; 2- and 4-axis wire EDM; 2D and 3D design, surface, and solid modelling; artistic relief cutting; and 2D and 3D routing. Running under Windows 2000, Windows XP, and Windows Vista, it is compatible with all other CAD/CAM systems.
