After 99 years of business, the family that has owned Röhm GmbH, a world-leading manufacturer of clamping devices, has transferred responsibility for company management to two external managing directors, Michael Bamberger and Michael Fried. Thus, the Röhm family is implementing a resolution adopted by the company’s partners in December 2007 to withdraw itself from the operating business and henceforward influence the destiny of Röhm GmbH as shareholders and members of the advisory board.
Michael Bamberger, 45, has been responsible for managing Röhm’s commercial business, encompassing the areas of marketing, finance, and administration, since the beginning of this year. He speaks for company management. Bamberger has many years of international corporate experience.
He studied industrial engineering and management at the University of Karlsruhe. After an early career in management consulting, Bamberger served in executive positions with Pfleiderer AG, including as managing director of marketing and production for a subsidiary in the United States, and, from 2003 through 2007, was sole managing director of a US-based German mechanical engineering company.
The other managing director of Röhm since April 2008, 41-year-old Michael Fried, is responsible for Röhm’s technical area, directing the quality, development, construction, and production functions.
Fried studied mechanical engineering at the University of Stuttgart and earned his doctorate at its Institute for Machine Tools. From 1997 to 2008, he was employed with the Komet Group, last serving as managing director of Komet Precision Tools with responsibility for global production within the entire group. He led the restructuring of Komet locations in the United States and Switzerland and the establishment of joint ventures in Eastern Europe and Asia.
For all of its history, Röhm has offered solutions for all chucking problems in the areas of workpiece and tool clamping within many industrial production sectors. The company now employs approximately 1,600 people worldwide.
The new managing directors issued a joint statement that declared Röhm a premium brand with great potential. “We will take on the challenges of further expanding the Röhm brand, and will pursue changes to successfully position the company for the future and as a global leader in the supply of clamping devices.”
