During the BIEMH machine tool exhibition that took place in Bilbao March 3–8, BAI Agencia de Innovación, in cooperation with AFM (the Spanish Association of Machine Tool Manufacturers) and the Bilbao Exhibition Centre, presented winners of the Spanish Machine Tool Design Prize 2008. ONA Electro-Erosion S.A. received the award in the Metal Cutting section, being recognized for its new high-speed wire-cutting ONA AF-25 electrical discharge machine.
In bestowing the distinction on ONA, the prize sponsors cited the machine’s integration of various elements, its ergonomic design, and its communication capabilities.
Additionally, Ibarmia Innovatek y Danobat received special mentions for its ZVH55/L3000 multipurpose machining centre and CP521 AF horizontal band saw.
Created 18 years ago, this design prize has become a reference for assessing the evolution of machine tools—not only from a technological point of view, but also with respect to safety, innovation, ecofriendliness, ergonomic design, and communications.
