Joint venture purchase strengthens medical moulding role.
Freudenberg-NOK General Partnership, the $1bn Americas joint venture between the German seal and component maker Freudenberg and Japan’s NOK Corporation, has acquired the assets of Californian moulder Anura Plastics Engineering Corporation (APEC).
Founded in 1997, APEC makes complex high tech thermoplastic medical and biotech components for intravenous sets, safety syringes and catheters and is involved in the moulding of both liquid silicone rubber and over moulding of silicone and polycarbonate parts.
The business operates from an 8000sq m plant with a Class 100,000 clean room at Baldwin Park, California, and has recently established a 3500sq m unit in China’s Guangdong Province.
Its mould making sister company Magor mold is not included in the deal but will continue to provide services under a partnership agreement.
Dr Jorg Schneewind, general manager of the special sealing products division, said: “Freudenberg-NOK has a goal to grow in the healthcare and medical market and this acquisition reflects our continued commitment to that vision.”
Michigan-based Freudenberg-NOK General Partnership was set up in 1989 by its parents who constitute the world’s largest producers of elastomeric seals and custom moulded products.
