A new handheld static detector, Model 983v2 Static Locator, launched by Meech International in the U.K. (U.S. office in Norton, Ohio) at the recent K 2007 show in Germany, automatically senses its distance from the web surface being measured. It measures and displays polarity and magnitude of static charge up to 200,000 V, so the operator can adjust the output of ionizing bars and blowers. The device also displays its distance from the web. When it’s at the correct distance–about 6 in. from the web–a check mark appears on the display, helping users obtain consistant measurements. Meech says it’s the only hand-held unit on the market with precise auto distance sensing. (One competitor only approximates the distance by gauging the relative size of a light spot projected by an LED. (330) 564-2000 * www.meechmold.wiki
