At the recent EMO trade fair in Hannover, Germany, Gibbs and Associates, developer of GibbsCAM software for programming cnc machine tools, issued a joint press release with the Infimatic Controls division of MAG to announce a new worldwide strategic partnership between the two companies. A key component of the relationship involves Infimatic offering Gibbs SFP (Shop Floor Programming) CAM software with the new line of MAG Infimatic open-architecture, PC-based controls.
EMO was the site of the European introduction of the new CNC controls with Gibbs SFP. Industry press and show attendees got to see the new MAG Infimatic CNC NC200™ controller running sample parts programmed with the Gibbs system.
“We are extremely pleased to have been picked by MAG Infimatic as their on-controller programming solution,” says Robb Weinstein, Gibbs’s senior vice president of sales and strategic planning, noting that Gibbs SFP was selected after an extensive evaluation.
Gibbs SFP’s ease of use, ease of learning, and recognition as an industry standard for shop-floor programming systems were reported to be key factors in its selection. Able to support programming wire-frame geometry, the Gibbs SFP version bundled with the Infimatic controller can be upgraded to support programming of more-complex parts, including surface and solid models. Gibbs SFP is completely compatible with the GibbsCAM product line; programmes developed off-line using GibbsCAM can be directly transferred to Gibbs SFP on the controller for review and easy modification.
During EMO, Gibbs SFP was demonstrated on freestanding Infimatic controls and on MAG Fadal VMC 4020 FX and MAG Fadal VMC 2216 FX machine tools run by MAG Infimatic controllers. MAG Fadal is the first machine builder to adopt the new Infimatic controllers.
Adds Weinstein, “Gibbs is excited that the MAG Fadal Division has elected to offer the new control with Fadal CNC machines, providing our mutual customers with a smooth transition path from the Fadal 32MP and 104D controls, which were used before the new Infimatic CNC controls and both of which bundled Gibbs SFP.”
