Radan Computational’s Radan 8.5 sheet metal working CAD/CAM software has a new user interface to maximise material utilisation and reduce cycle times.

Radan Computational introduced its Radan 8.5 CAD/CAM software for sheet metal applications at the UK’s MACH 2008 machine tool show last week Radan 8.5 has a new user interface with more functionality to maximise material utilisation and reduce cycle times, said the company

Radan 8.5 is Windows Vista compatible and includes enhancements to material thickness automatic detect and joggle support for RadbendCNC functionality to provide greater reliability and stability of the programming process.

There are enhancements offered with version 8, including support for AutoCAD 2008 .dwg files in addition to colour mapping and filtering during import; enhanced geometry and ‘smart shapes’ functions.

Radan told manufacturingtalk that new users of the software will benefit from the tutorial package supplied with Radan 8.5 to help familiarise them quickly with all of its features and functionality.

Using partly used sheet stock/offcuts – the handling of partly used sheets makes significant inroads into reducing material wastage.

Offcuts can be automatically recorded for later use by Radan’s Remnant Nesting tools and the nester will evaluate all stored remnants before selecting the best one to use.

* Punching and profiling – significant enhancements to core performance ensure increased efficiency when producing NC programs for punching and profiling machines.

In back-to-back testing, Radan 8.5 produced a typical part (comprising 11406 lines and arcs in 2862 complex profiles) more than 10 times faster than could be achieved in Radan 7.

Further functionality includes improved support for shearing machines and pierce variants for profiling machines, resulting in ultimate control over the cutting process.

Radan has a policy of continued development of its software, as product manager Olaf Koerner said: "Radan 8.5 demonstrates our commitment to ensuring that our customers can benefit from maximised productivity".

* About Radan – Radan is the most powerful sheet metal CAD/CAM software in the world, helping customers increase their material utilisation and reduce inventory and offers a significant return on investment.

Radan is a principal brand of the Planit Group recently ranked by CIMdata as the world’s fastest growing CAM vendor, with most industrial users.

* About Planit – Planit is a global supplier of design and manufacturing software for the engineering, woodworking and stone industries.
