Having paused for breath after completing a major expansion of its European manufacturing facility at Worcester, UK, Yamazaki Mazak is now embarking on another major investment. Construction has just commenced on what will be a dramatic extension to the 29,000-m² factory and office complex in Worcester, home of Yamazaki Mazak’s European headquarters.

A new building will house the company’s European Technology Centre, which will provide customers with a focal point from which to learn how Mazak can help them achieve higher productivity and profitability.

“Our UK factory has a crucial role to play as a sales tool for our European sales companies, being, in effect, a working showroom, where Mazak machines are used to make Mazak machines.” This is Dr. David Jack speaking. Jack is Yamazaki Mazak’s group managing director for Europe.

“Last year, we welcomed more than 1,300 overseas visitors here, and the upward trend is set to continue in 2008 and beyond,” he continues. “The addition of the European Technology Centre will allow visitors to Worcester not only to view our world-class manufacturing facility, but also to see the latest machine tool technology demonstrated in a truly state-of-the-art facility.”

As well as being a showcase for Mazak’s new product developments, the centre will also provide a venue for sales presentations in a 96-seat auditorium. Its glass-fronted atrium will house an extensive exhibition and hospitality area.

The new technology centre will replace the existing facility, which was conceived to support the needs of the UK Sales Division. Its greater scale is highlighted by the fact that the 1,320-m² demonstration area alone is more than twice the size of the current centre.

The first stage of the project was the creation of a new car-parking area. The European Technology Centre will occupy the site of the previous parking area, directly in front of the existing Mazak building. Construction of the building began in July. Completion is expected in June 2009.
